Living_donor_transplant

Living donor could be a close relative or unrelated person. The donor’s organ should match the patients for making a transplant. There is severe shortage of organs and this has been leading to trafficking of human organs. Organ theft and exploitative trade flourished. Government, in order to put an end to this cruel trade, amended laws and this has made it extremely difficult to get organs. Patients are suffering and dying due to restrictions placed on organ transplant. Unless government amend the laws so that willing donors can donate organs, even for monetary gains or otherwise (an ethical question), patients waiting for transplant will suffer and die. Best governmental intervention is to ensure that the willing donors are able to donate organs for whatever purpose they intend to do so, but protect them against exploitation. Boldly stating, if some donor is willing to donate organs for a substantial sum of money, he/she should be able to do so, but it should be ensured that the donor gets what he/she desires. Also, ensure that a minimum of say Rs. 1 or 2 lakh (or anything above that sum) should in any case be paid to the donor whatever the case may be.

Health authorities can also establish a system whereby willing donors but mismatching medical factors come together and help one another to find suitable donors. Recently 6 way transplant was done in US thus giving lives to 6 patients through this cooperative mutual help.
