Kidney diseases are becoming common these days. Renal failure ends the happy life of a person. Patient has to undergo dialysis to keep his/her life going. If he/she is lucky to get a successful kidney transplant life can be extended, albeit with the help of heavy doses of medicines. And both dialysis and transplant are unbearably expensive.
The physical and mental agony of the patient is inexplicable and he/she may face a slow death or painful existence with very expensive life supporting medical systems and becomes dependent on others. The families of patients face bankruptcy due to enormous medical expenses, loss of job of the patient and loss of earning potential of spouse or supporting family member. Renal failure and the enormous burdens have even forced many families to commit suicide.
There is need to bring aid to hapless patients with renal failure. Due to lack of knowledge of Medical insurance and poor health literacy people are not prepared to face such grave crises in their lives. Many organisations have not yet started providing medical insurance cover for their employees.
Government so far has not awaken adequately to the needs of kidney patients needing medical aid and other supports.
It is high time that the Governements and the society becomes aware of this medical crisis that can occur to anybody anytime and seek solutions to mitigate the suffering of the patients and their families
